The Indian Ocean

After our safari we went to the Kenyan coast for a few days.  When we got there we discovered that a ton of seaweed had washed up so the beach was covered in the yucky stuff so we spent most of our time at the pool.

We decided to take a walk on the beach before dinner.
OK.  You can put your feet in, but just your feet.

A couple of people had to go back to the room to change clothes before dinner.
Some people didn't mind the seaweed.

Safari

My parents have been here for about 2 1/2 weeks and we've loved having them around.  Erik was able to get a week off last week so we did some traveling.  I hope you aren't bored by pictures of family vacations because that will likely be what you get for the next few blog posts!

We were able to go on our first Maasai Mara safari.

We stayed in a Bush Camp with comfortable tents that were frequently visited by a baby eland.

This is my kind of camping!

A new maasai warrior friend

My 8 year old is a true cheetah expert and this was certainly the highlight of the trip for him (and me).

The timing of our trip was perfect to see the annual wildebeest migration.
We saw thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River.

An Overdue Update

1.  We did make the move up the hill two weeks ago and are enjoying our new home.
2.  My parents are here!  They arrived on Tuesday and we've enjoyed showing them around Kijabe.
3.  The kids finished school on Thursday and will be on break until the end of August!
4.  We are leaving for safari tomorrow and will head to the beach after our safari.  We haven't had the opportunity to go on a true safari yet, so we are all very excited.
5.  My parents say that we should all wear neutral colors so we will blend in with the wildlife and won't scare animals off.  My daughter's wardrobe is pretty much limited to hot pink.  I'm not counting on seeing any wildlife.
